Joanna Walitalo

Artist Bio

The primary art teacher throughout my life has been my mother, Barb Rogers, who has taught me how to see the world. She taught me through example, guiding my vision of the world. I have also had the privilege to take classes from Armin Mersmann, whose influence is evident in my work. Professionally, I have earned a BS in Biology and Environmental Policies from Central Michigan University, a Master of Forestry from Michigan Technological University, and a PhD in Forest Science from Michigan Technological University, which has given me the knowledge to accurately depict nature, and the understanding of wood properties to incorporate my scientific background with my love for art. I currently teach Forestry classes at Michigan Technological University and work as an artist and illustrator.
